We Were Wrong, We Admit It
We had the NBA Season 100% written off for the past few weeks…we didn’t even bother to throw ourselves into the obligatory lockout banter…all because we were confident no deal would be made. I once heard on sport talk radio that it’s good to be really really wrong sometimes, because it makes your viewers want to hear how to react to being wrong. Well, we’re pretty practical here at Token Sports.
Look what a few days does to news: Not only is there a handshake agreement, but the idea of a 66 game season starting on Christmas Day (with Knicks/Celtics of course) is now a reality. Kevin Durant is crying on his twitter. Lebron doesn’t have to play free safety in the NFL! Stephen Jackson stops making rap videos (I’m lookin’ at you too, Artest)…god damnit the NBA is on after all that bull***t. We had that one wrong.
Thank you to the college football season and the early college hoops action for holding me occupied and not focused on the lack of NBA basketball in November. Also, thanks to the Patriots for being the most random team in the NFL this season, making for an interesting Sunday every week.
As for my Celtics, this season sets up pretty well for the aging roster. 16 less games to play, a shorter time span to get locked down by an injury, extra time to workout and get in shape. Pierce, Allen, and KG should look at this as a gift for their aging bodies, and an opportunity to get a look at another NBA Championship.
What’s next? Well what about all those draft picks? How about free agency? Preseason? Training Camp? You’ve got 27 days…GO.
Tales of the NBA Lockout
1. First up, Delonte West applying for a job as a furniture mover. Is the money really that low, DWest? Also, check out the reason behind his conviction of a crime:
2. Next up, Ben Wallace digs himself a hole with a DUI and a gun charge at the same time.
“Mr. Wallace said he knew he was in the wrong, and he shouldn’t have had the gun, he also told me that he was a criminal justice major in college,” Lt. Mark Paquin wrote in his report.
3. Speaking of holes, some random Chinese league team just dug their own by giving JR Smith millions to play there this season. There’s no way he tries his hardest over there:
Smith signed a $3 million contract with the Zhejiang Chouzhou Golden Bulls, according to Jon Pastuszek at NiuBBall. Per league rules, Smith’s deal does not include an opt-out clause that would allow him to return to the NBA when the lockout ends.
4. Last up…well at least the lockout doesn’t take away a new NBA2K game. Here’s the 2012 promo ad, featuring rapper Drake and MJ:

What Lockout? I’ve Still Got NBA Highlights Galore pt.5
Here’s some more great offseason…cough cough…I mean locked out season highlights from the pro-am leagues. Lebron, carmelo, Chris Paul, Hakim Warrick, Tyreke Evans and a bunch of other NBA stars are featured in this game from Philly…

Videos of the Weekend
Let’s recap the crazy stuff I missed while celebrating my birthday and getting in some golf this weekend…
Serena Williams doing a full split at the US Open. That would probably put me out of commission for a couple of weeks:
